I have been asked by the players to put the following on the website:-
Sunday the 28th August has been designated at 'Silly Sunday', the "unofficial" celebration, by the players, of the end of our current season. As far as I can make out, the details are as follows:- Senior players (18 and over) only. Starts at 9-30am at our ground, the Colosseum, and dependant on the weather, will take the form of a 'picnic' style event. Fancy dress or 'unusual' costume is compulsory. Everyone has to bring beer and/or spirits (and food if you want to eat). Different sporting events, (rugby sevens, sprinting, football) will be played during different stages of crapulence ( oh come on, it means tipsiness!!!). The 'celebration' will go on until it ends ..... or moves to the White Swan in St Albans. The clubs "official" end of season presentation event will be announced shortly. The squads have been announced for the 2016 Hard Rock Cafe London Origin Series which takes place in September 2016. The Origin series was created by the RFL in 2006 as part of a programme to select a South of England regional team to progress to national trials. The RFL no longer run the programme, but the London Rugby League Foundation now runs the programme in partnership with the London Youth, Junior & Primary League and London Broncos. The aim of the series is to provide additional and more challenging playing opportunities for players, aiming to secure a place with the London Broncos on their Under 16 and Under 19 Academy programmes. The programme also provides development opportunities for coaches and extends the playing season for club players in London and the South East. The programme is proudly sponsored by long term supporters of rugby league in London, Hard Rock Cafe London. The series will take place at Under 14, Under 15 and Under 17 levels, with matches on Saturday 10th September at Elmbridge Eagles and Saturday 24th September at Hemel Stags. Three St Albans Centurions players have been called up to the Under 14's North squad. They are Matt Cannon, Harry Dean and Tom Liddlelow. Congratulations to them from the club. St Albans Centurions ended their season with a defeat in the play off semi finals against Hemel Stags. A depleted Cents squad, facing a very different Hemel line up to the ones they had already defeated in two league games this season, had a good first half against Hemel, but could not keep the Stags from running in several tries in the second half.
A match report is on the first team page.. Match day photos are now on the photo site. North Herts Crusaders 28 -v- 38 St Albans Centurions
St Albans Centurions finished the regular season as runners up in the East Rugby League after this workmanlike win at Letchworth. Comfortably leading by thirty points to ten at half time, the Cents rhythm was disrupted in the second half with an ankle injury to Jake McLoughlin but they still ended with a victory by ten points. (Get well soon Jake). Cents now move into the top four play offs with home advantage in next weeks second place against third placed Hemel Stags who finished four points below them. A full match report is on the First team page. Sorry, but no photos from this weeks game. |
